5. Take a single jump stitch backward over the standing ribbon. This will force the ribbon to lie down. If you have allowed enough slack in the ribbon, the left side of the petal should appear curved. Take a couple of tacking stitches in place.

6. Stitch down from the just-secured petal tip, along the right side of the drawn spoke. End where you began, at the flower center.

7. Place the extended ribbon tail to the right side of the needle. Let it lie flat on the fabric. This will create the other side of the petal and will define its width.
